This is one of the few specialist children’s hospitals in Western Africa and is where kwashiorkor and marasmus were first described. The hospital works in collaboration with UNICEF to combat the high level of child malnutrition in the area. In 2011 the hospital completed a new theatre block which incorporates theatres, anaethetists, an intensive care unit and recovery ward.
